It is amazing how people in other places in the world have completely different lifestyles than ours. This video tells us a little about the conditions of living in Afghanistan and Pakistan. A failing circumstance led Greg Mortenson to one of these cities, where he was nourished and taken care of by the people. While he was here he noticed that people specially children lacked education and knowledge. He would tell the children stories and give them lectures; he noticed that these children would be writing down on the dirt with a stick. When he felt better he promised to come back and provide them with an institution for learning. As promised, he returned and established the Central Asia Institute for boys and girls.
His focus is on education and health, especially for girls. It is believed that if women are taught up to fifth grade, they will have a better condition in life; teaching them how to sow will create a way for them to sustain their families and at the same time help the economy. The people reacted really well to Mortenson, welcoming them to their family after “Three Cups of Coffee” (book written by Mortenson). This video gives us the oportunity to see people in other conditions, and compare and be thankful for what we have and how we live.
I am not saying that they are poor and suffer, and we are rich. But what I am really trying to say is that sometimes, if not most of the time we take things for granted without knowing what others have to go through in order to have a fourth of what we have. It is great that people like Mortenson try to improve cities like these. One person cannot change the world, but one peorson can start a change.

ReplyDeleteWe are very privilidged to live in a country like the U.S. Though you say we may not be rich, but I must say that what we do have is freedom, and rights that some of these people living in countries like Pakistan don't. I agree with you, and I like how you mention that all it takes is one person to start a change.
ReplyDeleteMany people are ungrateful of living in the US because I admit, is not a perfect country. But compare to other countries, we are blessed of living in this country. Being able to shower every morning and go to school is something that we might take for granted, but in other places education is heaven. Im glad people like Mortenson are doing something to improve the world.
ReplyDeleteActually what you guys consider "freedom" is a complete miss understanding yeah we have a good lifestyle but to what limits many people say yeah US freedom but everything we do is being tracked and basically dictated from the government, we dont have a democracy, we have anarchy's within our government that create what we the public believe to be democracy thats all i have to say.
